All Steps of the Application Process
It is obligatory to upload the transcripts of all the courses you have ever taken. You may upload the unofficial transcripts or your student copies. Further you must give the official transcript to the applying committee. HGSE reserves the right to withdraw an admissions offer, if there is a discrepancy between the uploaded version and the official original transcript and/or the official translation.
If you are applying to the Doctor of Education Leadership program, you may submit official scores from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) in lieu of GRE scores. The test must have been taken on or after February 1, 2015 if you are applying for enrollment in the 2020-2021 academic year. Your application will not be considered complete until an official GMAT (or GRE) score report has been received.
Completion of graduate-level degrees at an institution at which the instruction is conducted in English does not exempt an applicant from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement.
You are required to write a short essay (up to 500 words) on the topic from the official web-site of HGSE : Describe a strategy from outside your organization — or even the education sector — that could radically improve the American PreK-12 education system. Also, it is an obligation to send the Statement of Purpose. It is an up to 1500 words writing only in English, even for international applicants. All the details and topics that must be included into your statement are at the HGSE official web-site.
Applicants are required to submit three recommendations using the online application system. Please note that we are unable to facilitate changing recommenders once you have entered them in the Recommendations section of your application. Please think carefully and thoughtfully about who you would like to serve as your recommenders before adding them to your application. You cannot be involved in any way in the drafting or writing of your recommendation letter. Writing a first draft of a letter to give to your recommender is inappropriate. You may provide a resume or summary of your accomplishments to your recommender to use for contextual information, but you should not provide any materials beyond these examples. Please remember that in the application, you will be required to electronically sign a statement confirming that you had no participation in the drafting or submission of your recommendation letter. Note that the HGSE Admissions Office may follow up with recommenders as needed for additional information.

Once all applications have been reviewed, HGSE will invite selected applicants to campus for a day of required interviews (both individual and group) with members of the admissions committee. Interviews will take place in February.

International Applicants
What International Applicants to HGSE Must Have
The admissions criteria applied in evaluating international applicants are the same as those for U.S. citizens. All application materials, including transcripts and recommendations, must be submitted online and in English.

If your native language is not English, you must submit the results of the TOEFL (or IELTS) and, if taking the paper-based test, the Test of Written English (TWE). You are exempt from this requirement if you have earned a bachelor's degree from an institution at which English was the sole language of instruction. The test must have been taken on or after January 1, 2019 if you are applying for enrollment in the 2021-2022 academic year. Due to limitations caused by COVID-19, we are accepting TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition. HGSE prefers applicants with scores of 104 or higher on the Internet-based TOEFL, with individual section scores (e.g., reading, writing, listening, and speaking) of at least 26. On the old Paper-based TOEFL, HGSE prefers applicants with scores of 613 or higher, with individual section scores of at least 60 in reading, 63 in writing, 60 in listening, and 5.0 on the TWE (Test of Written English). For the new Paper-based TOEFL, HGSE prefers applicants with individual scores of at least 26 in reading, 26 in listening, and 26 in writing. The documents for the admissions process :
